Editor’s note: This is part of The Know’s series, Staff Favorites. Each week, we offer our opinions on the best that Colorado has to offer for dining, shopping, entertainment, outdoor activities and more. (We’ll also let you in on some hidden gems). The older I get, the more fascinated I am by the stunning precision of celestial events, the ways our solar system works, and the wonders of the universe beyond. And, while learning about lunar cycles, planetary orbits and other marvels that sparkle in the vast darkness of outer space, I discovered the Mile High Astronomy store in Lakewood, a fantastic place to geek out on astronomy. It’s the only dedicated telescope store in Colorado, and it isn’t just for experts. It’s a welcoming place for novice stargazers, too.The owner, who goes by his one-word legal name, Sorin, said there are only about a half dozen dedicated telescope stores in the United States since much of the business has gone online, adding that the closest ...

Denver Post Broncos writer Parker Gabriel posts his Broncos Mailbag periodically during the offseason. Click here to submit a question. My glass is usually always “half full,” but after Friday night, it’s half full of vinegar. What changes do you foresee to correct our offensive offensive line performance, other than Mike McGlinchey stepping in? Friday’s OL performance was very concerning. Even a Garett Bolles holding call is better than getting Russell Wilson cremated!— A Referee, GreeleyHey Ref! Thanks for kicking us off tonight. You’re a glass half full guy, eh?I suppose the main reason for optimism is just not declaring the whole thing too broken to repair after 20 preseason snaps. Really, it’s pretty much that simple. Certainly Friday night was not pretty for, in particular, Denver’s left-side pair of tackle Garett Bolles and guard Ben Powers. It’s also their first time ever playing another team together. It was Bolles’ first time on a game fi...

Opinion: Decoding former VP Mike Pence: The words he just can’t say

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 20:00:04 GMT

Mike Pence is not ruling out testifying against former President Donald Trump. But could the jury crack the code he uses when talking about his onetime boss?Exactly how the former vice president really feels about Trump’s past actions and his fitness to again be commander-in-chief requires a legal decoder ring and a political magnifying glass. Trouble is, neither accurately measures courage or fortitude.Despite headlines declaring Pence as having broken with the thrice-indicted Trump, the former vice president still pulls punches and minces words when talking about the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.Parsing Pence the candidate is a murky task, and one jurists in a coming federal criminal trial about Trump’s actions after the 2020 election and before the Jan. 6 insurrection must undertake when considering Trump’s guilt or innocence. Next year, voters will have to do the same — especially independent and some moderate Republicans in the six or eight swing...

Opinion: Increased security is a must for nation’s election workers

A county election worker in Oregon recently found himself in an unsettling situation during his rounds collecting ballots from drop boxes.
